Dating
Questions
Dear
Pat,
I just read your on-line article, "Most Asked Questions on
Dating." My daughter recently met a young man that said,
"I have dated more girls than I can remember." However,
he seems polite, educated, and religious. I feel very strongly
that my daughter should only date men that are pure. How and when
should she ask this young man if he is pure? They have only known
each other for 2 weeks.
Thank you.
Dear
Concerned Mother,
Let me offer three words of advice. First, the Holy Spirit leads
us into all truth (John 16). If you do not have the peace of God,
if there are signs of concern, seriously pray about it and if
you really are seeking after God's will, He will lead you to the
right path. Second, I would warn against getting involved with
a person who says he has "dated more girls than he can remember."
From this comment I would conclude he does not seriously care
for the other girls he got involved with. He was not concerned
about their feelings, nor the hurt the break up caused. He obviously
is not committed and is quite self-centered seeking to satisfy
his interests and then move on when the other person no longer
is of interest to him. Finally, on the issue of purity, if it
is of concern, it should be asked. God commands that we be pure
and holy. This is an important question and if he is truly seeking
to obey the Lord, this young man should not be afraid to answer
truthfully this question.
Hope this helps.
